Practical and pocket friendly

As Dacia’s first 100% electric vehicle and the brand’s first city car, the Spring Electric breaks ground on a couple of fronts. This versatile city hopper is practical and pocket friendly. Romanian-branded and Chinese-made, the EV straddles the line between small car and SUV nicely, its sporty look and feel belied by its restrained dimensions. Beyond the price advantage – you will not find a cheaper electric vehicle – the Dacia Spring Electric is well designed with solid features that are sure to appeal to millennials and Gen Z drivers.

Sporty and spacious

Sporty and spacious

The Spring Electric aims to redefine small cars with a powerful, assertive physique mounted on 14-inch simulated alloy wheels. Although just 3.73 metres long, the new EV can accommodate a family of four. There’s a sense of roominess in front with ample storage space but the back seat may be best suited to children. At 300 litres, the trunk competes with bigger cars, and is large enough to accommodate the family’s emotional baggage – even on a short road trip to the countryside. Drivers choosing the Comfort Plus version will appreciate the Medianav multimedia system with its 7-inch touchscreen and voice recognition, the camera for help with reversing and Android Auto or Apple CarPlay.

Comfort for city slickers

Comfort for city slickers

As a contender for the title of Europe’s cheapest EV, the Dacia Spring Electric performs commendably in terms of performance and range. Despite being a light car at 970kg, the Spring handles easily thanks to a 43bhp electric motor and power steering. A top speed of 125km is enough for the city and turning radius of 4.8m should help ease into the tightest parking spots. Upfront, the battery range of 225km may seem low, but Dacia says it stretches to six days of city driving. The entry-level Dacia Spring Electric Comfort version is priced from €17,890 in northern Europe, but rates vary by market, government incentives and leasing options. Still, it’s a lot of car for not a lot of money.
