Volvo C40 - Recharge

Pure, all-electric cool

Subcompact luxury crossover

Eco-friendly with a leather-free interior, Volvo’s C40 recharge is a sleek-styled coupé SUV that’s bang on-trend. The company’s first pure, electric-only model, the C40 Recharge boasts all the benefits of an SUV but with improved aerodynamics. It’s lower and quicker, so feels sportier to drive. Two motors, one on the front and one on the rear axle, deliver more than double the power output of your average family SUV and it’s permanently in four-wheel-drive mode. Powered by a 78kWh battery, the C40 offers a certified range of around 420 km and can be fast-charged to10-80 per cent in less than 40 minutes. Design-wise, a striking rear-end complements its lower roofline, while the front introduces a new face for electric Volvos, complete with pixel-tech headlights. Inside, the high seating position puts you in command of your drive, if not your destiny (and the planet’s). And of course, it comes with one of the best infotainment systems on Earth. The C40 Recharge is also equipped with Volvo Cars’ latest Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) that consists of an array of radars, cameras, and ultrasonic sensors.

Audi Q4 - E-Tron (S Line)

Electric innovation

Electric mid-size luxury crossover

Impeccably designed and very on-trend, the Audi Q4 e-tron could easily be called the perfect car for the Instagram generation. Mechanically identical to the Volkswagen ID.4 and Skoda Enyaq underneath, the posher Q4 e-tron puts luxury electric driving firmly within your reach. The Q4 e-tron sports an upright, cliff-faced nose and the usual massive Audi grille for a chiselled, contemporary look, complete with LED headlights and big alloy wheels. Inside, the modern cabin is properly roomy, thanks to the optimised floorplan with 82kWh/400V battery stored neatly below. A big, 10.1-inch touchscreen and similar-sized digital instrument panel put the world at your fingertips, while an eight-speaker sound system can blast your life’s soundtrack at 180W of amplification. The Q4 scores big on interior space, onboard technology and, of course, refined, responsive zero-emissions running. A slick, all-electric mid-sized crossover SUV that seamlessly merges performance with practicality. Audi’s Q4 e-tron is electric innovation at its finest: fully electric, expressive, and ready for the everyday.

Tesla Model Y

The ‘S3XY’ finishing touch

compact luxury crossover

What do you get when you take a smash hit like Tesla’s Model 3 sedan and pump it full of steroids? A Tesla SUV, sans the 'falcon-wing' doors. The model Y is a compact crossover utility vehicle that sits just below the mid-size Model X and completes the all-electric brand's core line-up of S, 3, X, Y models (Ford wouldn’t part with its Model ‘E’, hence the ‘3’). A little bit longer (only by 50mm) and a whole lot taller (181mm higher), the Y shares a platform, powertrain and design language with the junior sedan—but it features a practical hatchback, rather than a boot. Inside, there’s plenty of room for passengers who enjoy a raised seating position. A large central touchscreen houses all the car’s controls, from sat-nav and climate to headlights and wipers. You can also use it as an instrument panel, to activate the air con’s bioweapon defence filtration system, in case you need it— just one of this car’s special, Tesla-only features. On a more practical note, the sleek, minimalist Model Y is an agile, sharp steering and responsive electric vehicle that’s worth getting pumped up over.
