Polestar 3 vs Polestar 2

The Polestar 3 is an evolution of the Polestar 2. Interested?

The Polestar 3 is not far away and we’re excited at what it has to offer. With Polestar 2 being one of the most successful EVs since its release in 2020, there’s plenty to expect from Polestar 3.

A brand built for today

Polestar, of course, is the premium electric car brand from Sweden. The Volvo-Geely stablemate is a design-focused brand that twins refined performance with cutting-edge technology to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions.

The line debuted with the Polestar 1, a low-volume Electric Performance Hybrid GT, but went full electric with the Polestar 2, considered one of the most innovative and advanced performance EVs on the road today.

The Polestar 3, which debuts in October 2022, strengthens that DNA with a reimagined SUV that transforms common perceptions of electric cars.

Range and power

The Polestar 3 is likely to build on the Polestar 2’s credentials. The latter was highly praised for its range, with a full 78-kwh battery, delivering a WLTP-certified 439km. Polestar 3 promises to go much further with a larger – as yet unspecified – battery pack.

The upcoming Polestar 3 vehicle will likely also pack a heftier punch. There’s also no word on horsepower or acceleration, although it will keep the Polestar 2’s dual-motor drivetrain. However, since Polestar 3 is designed from the ground up, it’s sure to build up on the Polestar 2’s 400 horsepower and sub-five-second 0-100km/h acceleration. The first in an advanced line-up that includes the Polestar 4 and Polestar 5 promises to be an SUV for the electric age.

Design and tech

From what we can see, the Polestar 3 brings an all-new design language to the road. It abandons the familiar Volvo family lines for a sportier new look and feel that is based on the Precept concept car. The T-shaped daytime lights are likely to stay but thankfully, there’s no traditional grille.

Best of all, the Polestar 3 will be one of the most climate-responsible cars ever made – complete with sustainable, leather-free interior. It’s also an autonomous driving native, powered by a best-in-class LiDAR sensor from Luminar in the roof, and centralized NVIDIA DRIVE computing power.

Polestar has won friends and fans on range and performance, if not on looks. It takes the battle to Tesla and competes with other combustion-engine sedans at pocket-friendly lease prices. In return, you can be assured of head-turning design, future-focused tech and high-end environmental credentials.
