EV costs
What total cost to expect?
When it comes to the total cost of an electric vehicle (EV), you can expect to save more money compared to a vehicle with an internal combustion engine. But how much? Whether you're charging at home or on the road, you'll need accurate figures for your monthly budget.
How to calculate costs for charging
Charging at home or at work
The cost of charging your EV at home depends on the rate of electricity in your area. An average EV consumes 15 to 20 kWh per 100 km. So, if the electricity rate at home is € 0.25 and you drive an average of 15,000 km a year, then the cost of charging your car will be between € 563 and € 750 a year.
Bear in mind that in most cases charging at home is cheaper than at public charging points.
When charging on the road, you pay the rate set by the charging station operator. In addition to the kWh price, the energy provider may also charge for the length of stay at the charging station.
