Inaugurated in 2013, this academy in Namakkal provides affordable secondary schooling to underprivileged children. Education in this region of India is often of poor quality and prohibitively expensive.
We also support children in Tamilnadu, whose lives have been affected by HIV/AIDS. Support comes in the form of education, food and medical care.
The academy is equipped to provide 600 children with much-needed education. While LeasePlan continues to support the running costs of the school, the intention is for the ChildPlan Academy to generate a source of income in the future to make it a sustainable community education centre.
CWCN has reached over 3,000 street children in Kathmandu since it was built in 2006. It provides medical care, life skills and education to those without shelter, food or opportunities to attend school. The children are taught up to a certain level until they are ready for the regular education system. In addition to academic education the children are taught how to protect themselves both physically, through self-defence classes, and mentally, through counselling. Where possible, and closely guided by the staff at CWCN, the children are reunited with their families.
In Tirupur, SAVE helps defend the rights of former child labourers and provides them with much-needed support. Many of those saved from child labour have difficulty in adapting to ordinary education so they need special care. Children aged between 8 and 14 attend a Bridge School for a year before entering the regular school system. They are given education, school materials, uniforms, lunch, health check-ups and extra-curricular activities. A school enrolment campaign is also organised to motivate parents to enrol their children. LeasePlan also provides support for older children, aged between 15 and 21, through a Vocational Training Centre.
LeasePlan has also supported children in Rwanda, Pakistan and Cameroon. Many of these children are disabled or traumatised. Others simply live too far away to attend primary school. All are denied the rights every child, no matter who they are or where they live, should enjoy: to have a safe, happy and healthy childhood.
