The second generation of the BMW X2 grows in all directions, while pushing its design DNA to the next level. Interestingly, it is available as an all-electric iX2 straightaway.
Aesthetically, the X2 clearly distances itself from its predecessor. At the front, it adopts the style of the recent X1, while its silhouette mimics that of the X4 and X6, two larger SUV coupés from the Bavarian brand. At 4,554 mm, it is an impressive 194 mm longer than before. Transversely and vertically it gained 21 mm and 64 mm, respectively.
The longer wheelbase and wider tracks allow for more space for passengers and luggage. The iX2's boot can hold up to 525 litres worth of luggage with the rear seats upright. If you fold them down, you have a 1,400-litre cargo space at your disposal, making this iX2 suitable for family use.
417 to 449 km of driving range
The X2 is available with two petrol and one diesel version, but more interesting for the Fleet market is the iX2 xDrive30, the first electric X2. As the "xDrive" designation suggests, it is all-wheel-drive. Two identical electric motors (one at the front, one at the rear) produce a total output of 230 kW or 313 hp. With its 494 Nm of torque, it is able to reach 100 kph from a standstill in just 5.6 seconds. The top speed is limited to 180 km/h.
The iX2 draws its power from a 64.8-kWh lithium-ion battery that gives it a driving range of between 417 and 449 kilometres according to the WLTP standard. AC charging can be done at 11 kW, but you can upgrade to a 22-kW onboard charger if you prefer. Alternatively, the iX2 xDrive30 can DC fast-charge at 130 kW.
BMW Operating System 9
BMW's infotainment unit runs on the new BMW Operating System 9 and comes with a wide curved display with touch screen technology and voice command. As in the iX1, the iDrive controller has disappeared.
Each iX2 gets dual-zone automatic air conditioning, the BMW Maps navigation system and a sports steering wheel with leather trim as standard. You don't have to pay extra for the power boot lid, four USB-C ports and a 12-volt socket in the central console and boot either. For the safety and comfort of the driver and passengers, BMW naturally provides an entire range of driving assistance systems, which can be supplemented with a host of optional features.
Just like the petrol and diesel X2s, the iX2 xDrive30 is built in Regensburg, Germany. It will be available from next spring.
