New rules about when your car will need an EU control came into force in February 2019. Previously the last numbers of your registration number governed when your car would need to be submitted for a control .
These new rules mean that EU controls can now be undertaken when you want, provided that your car has been approved by the control deadline. The control deadline is final.
In practice this means that the control deadline which applied during the transition will apply until you have had a new control. After that you will be given a new deadline based on the date on which your control was carried out.
The control intervals will remain the same as at present, i.e. private vehicles shall be control for the first time after four years and subsequently every other year, while vehicles weighing over 7,500 kg shall be control every year.
