Frequently Asked Questions
Tyres
If you have a maintenance package with us, LeasePlan will fit tyres from our preferred premium brand partners - Goodyear, Hankook, Yokohama and Michelin to minimise downtime and ensure you are back on the road asap. This may mean that where it's safe and legal to do so, we fit different tyres to those already on your vehicle - we will always fit tyres that are suitable for your vehicle and we'll ensure that if a vehicle or tyre manufacturer mandates a specific tyre brand for your vehicle, we will follow that requirement.
If you don't have a maintenance package included in your contract with us, and need replacement tyres, please visit a VAT-registered garage of your own choice. Remember to keep all receipts on you for any work done to the vehicle, as we may request this at the end of your contract.
If you have a maintenance package with us, you should allow at least 48 hrs to make your booking (its always better to make it longer if possible). We may be able to arrange something sooner if you have tyre damage or your tyres are below the legal limit, but there may be a delay at the fitting centre if your tyre needs to be ordered, and in some cases - additional costs - such as an emergency or short notice call- out charge. These together with any damage deemed to be due to driver negligence, will be recharged. Click here for the FAQ - what's included in my tyre cover?

There are now thousands of different tyre sizes and construction types fitted to vehicles. Tyre fitting centres have limited storage space and so will only carry the most popular sizes on their shelves which means there's a chance that they may not have the specific size and type for your vehicle, particularly if you're in an EV or a less common vehicle. If you have a maintenance package with us, booking in advance ensures that we can get the right tyre ordered and in place for your appointment; it also allows us to reserve your slot at the tyre fitting centre to ensure you're not waiting around.

If you have a maintenance package with us, we'll need to know your vehicle registration number and mileage as well as the tyre size and make of the tyre that needs replacing on your vehicle; bear in mind that the tyre sizes may be different on the front and rear and the makes may also be different on the vehicle. We'll also ask you what work needs doing, your location and preferred date for an appointment. Please also ensure that you give us a contact number for any issues or updates we need to make you aware of.

If you have a maintenance package with us, all tyre upgrades - including changing to winter or all season tyres will need to be approved in advance, and we may need to change your contract and increase the cost as these tyres are generally more expensive and don't last as long.
Getting winter or all-season tyres is dependent on your contract, so please do check this if you're not sure whether you have this cover. If this is not part of your contract, but you choose to get winter tyres, please be aware that when you return the vehicle to us, winter tyres will need to be removed.

If you have a maintenance package with us, please book your tyre replacement as soon as you notice that the tyres are reaching 2mm - there are small markers within the tyre tread that indicate that your tyres are at this level - this will ensure we are able to arrange an appointment and organise the right tyres to be available.
Legally, you must have a minimum tread depth of 1.6mm in a continuous band around the central three quarters of the tyre. To help you judge how much tread you have on your vehicle tyres, manufacturers often mould tread bars at roughly 1.6mm.
At LeasePlan, we change tyres at 2mm as standard, so you should never be on illegal tyres as long as you check them regularly. You can also check the tread depth simply by using a 20p coin as the image shows, but if you’re not sure, pop into one of our approved tyre centres and they'll check them for free.

If you have a maintenance package with us, please be aware that to help with tyre availability, to reduce reliance on an already stressed supply chain and to reduce our raw material use, we adopt a ‘repair first’ approach, so when it is safe & legal to do so, we will carry out puncture repairs.

If your contract includes maintenance, we'll replace the tyres on your vehicle if they're damaged, punctured or below 2mm. Simply call your DriverLine number and select the relevant option; we'll then check stock levels for your vehicle within your area and book an appointment for you. Please don't book directly with a tyre fitter.
- Speed and driving style: winding roads, rapid acceleration and harsh braking can all impose undue stresses on the tyre which can reduce its lifespan. At 120 Km/h, a tyre wears out twice as fast as it does at 70Km/h.
- Overloading or under-inflating a tyre by 20% reduces its lifespan by around 26%.
- Shocks: hitting kerbs, driving fast over potholes, large stones and other obstacles can be the cause of tyre damage that's not always immediately apparent.
Run flat tyres allow you to continue driving (about 50 miles at 50 mph) with reduced tyre pressure. They have a reinforced sidewall as an extra barrier against wear and tear so the tyre can support extra weight. If you need to identify a run flat tyre, these are the tell-tale codes found on the most common brands: Bridgestone - ROF, RFT, RSC Pirelli - RSC Michelin - ZP Goodyear - ROF, EMT Dunlop - DSST, ROF Continental - SSR
Please check tyre pressures when they’re cold, at least once a month or before a long journey. You can do this at most petrol stations and it only takes five minutes. You can normally find the right pressure for your tyres on a sticker inside one of your doors.
Many vehicles have a Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) which alerts you if your tyre pressure is wrong. Ignoring this warning is dangerous, so please check tyre pressure to avoid any tyre blowouts. Over or underinflated tyres need longer braking distances and have reduced grip as well as costing you money. Under-inflated tyres reduce your fuel efficiency and reduce the life of the tyre by up to 25%. You’ll need to re-set the TMPS after you’ve inflated the tyres - your vehicle handbook will show you how to do this. The TMPS only checks the pressure in your tyres, not the depth of tread remaining.
