Frequently Asked Questions
MOT
If you're looking to book a service or any other maintenance, please do this via your Tesla app. If you're looking to book an MOT, this should be done via LeasePlan's service booking page , if you have LeasePlan maintenance cover. If you don't have maintenance with us, you can book your MOT at any VAT-registered garage of your choice. Do remember to keep all receipts as we may ask for this when you return your vehicle to us.
MOT's are due three years after the vehicle is registered, and four years for vehicles in Northern Ireland. MOTs can be carried out up to one month in advance of the expiry date. You can check whether your MOT is valid here https://www.gov.uk/check-mot-history. Remember, it's the driver's responsibility to MOT the vehicle and ensure the vehicle is kept legal and safe at all times.
We will send you reminders and if you have a maintenance in your contract, you can book your MOT online here or call us on 0345 250 0000. If you don't maintenance with us, please book into a local approved MOT centre.
We recommend booking your MOT in advance of the due date so there's time to repair and book a retest. Please be aware that garages can get busy, especially at certain times of the year. You can book up to three months ahead and tests can be carried out up to 30 days ahead of the due date.
Ahead of the day, remember to check your tyres and windscreen, as well as ensuring that all your lights are working. See our blog on 'What preparation should I do ahead of my MOT appointment to help prevent failing the MOT?'
Tyres are one of the main reasons vehicles fail an MOT, so it's worth checking the condition of your tyres before your MOT takes place. If you have a maintenance contract with us and your tyres need replacing, please make an appointment (here) or contact us on 0345 250 0000.
If you have a maintenance contract with us and your vehicle has failed an MOT due to tyres, we will arrange and authorise replacement tyres with the test centre. Not all MOT test centres are able to replace tyres, so we can arrange a mobile fitter. We can also arrange an emergency appointment for you, but please bear in mind that there are additional costs applied that will be recharged to you. You may not get your vehicle back on the road on the same day.
It's important that you don't drive the vehicle away to get the tyres replaced as the vehicle will be illegal and the insurance will be invalid. You could receive a penalty fine and three points on your licence if stopped by the police.
If you don't have a maintenance contract with us, you can take your vehicle to any VAT-registered garage of your choice. Please remember to keep all receipts of any work done as this may be asked for when you return your vehicle at the end of your contract.
It's important you organise the MOT once you receive your first reminder from LeasePlan. MOTs can be booked in up to 3 months ahead of the due date and can be carried out up to 30 days of due date.
Leaving it to the last minute may result in the MOT expiring before it can be booked in. You will not be legally allowed to drive the vehicle if the MOT expires. Your insurance will also become invalid and you could receive a penalty fine and three points on your licence if stopped by the police.

If you have a maintenance contract, and your vehicle fails its MOT, then the garage will contact us for authorisation to carry out the required work. If this isn't possible, we'll make the necessary arrangements to get the vehicle moved to another garage for the work to be completed and the vehicle retested.
If you have the relief vehicle option included in your contract, you can contact us on 0345 250 0000 to arrange a vehicle through our rental partner while your vehicle is being repaired.
It's important that you don't take the vehicle away to get the work sorted yourself. The vehicle is illegal without an MOT and it may be unsafe to drive. Your insurance will be invalid and you could receive a penalty fine of up to £2,500 and three points on your licence if stopped by the police.
If you don't have a maintenance agreement, you will need to ensure that the car is repaired and this can be done at a VAT-registered garage of your choice.
Ahead of your MOT date, check your tyres and windscreen, as well as ensuring that all your lights are working. If you find a fault with your tyres or windscreen or have a warning light on the dashboard, we recommend you arrange for these to be repaired before the MOT takes place. Not all MOT test centres carry tyres or have the ability to investigate and repair work related to warning lights, and your vehicle may need to be booked into a specialist. There may also be a delay in obtaining replacement parts and tyres to fit your vehicle. In this case you will not be able to drive your vehicle legally. Checking your vehicle ahead of the MOT will prevent unexpected delays. For further hints and tips, see Checks to increase your success of passing your MOT On the day, if you have been given a timed slot, please arrive at least 10 minutes early for your MOT appointment, so your vehicle is ready to go on the ramp. MOT's are timed appointment slots and arriving late may mean your MOT needs to be rescheduled.
Collection and delivery is subject to availability by the repair garage and the distance radius set by each garage. Please be aware that many MOT test centres do not offer collection and delivery. To discuss any particular requirements, call us on 0345 250 0000. For safety reasons, anything deemed to impact the performance or safety of the vehicle such as issues with brakes, loss of power and any red engine management lights will also not qualify for collection and delivery.
If your contract includes maintenance, the garage will forward a copy of the MOT certificate to LeasePlan. You can view the details of the vehicle's MOT history on www.check-mot.service.gov.uk. If you need a copy of your MOT certificate, call us on 0345 250 0000.
The majority of vehicles that go in for standard servicing and/or MOT, are returned the same day if there are no complex issues. Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee a specific time but the garage will call you to advise.

If the MOT is due before the vehicle is returned, then the vehicle must have an MOT and confirmation of this provided when returning the vehicle. We cannot collect your vehicle without a valid MOT. If we come to collect your vehicle and the MOT is overdue, we will have to abort the collection until the MOT is complete, resulting in additional charges to you.
