Frequently Asked Questions
New Emissions Testing Regulations - WLTP
What does the span of CO2 mean?
The span starts at the base model (with no extras) and goes all the way up to the ‘fully loaded’ version with every optional extra. It basically gives the range from the lowest to highest possible CO2 for your vehicle.
Which options will change the CO2 output?
While the impact of individual options will vary significantly, and some may have no effect at all, we suggest avoiding heavy optional extras and those that will affect aerodynamic performance, as these will increase the amount of CO2 your vehicle produces. Examples include a panoramic sunroof or larger wheels.
How will I know what the impact is to me?
While we can’t give you the Benefit in Kind tax or Vehicle Excise Duty you will pay, you can use the span of CO2 values we give you to check on the HMRC website and see what the best-case and worst-case scenarios are likely to be. Remember, the closer you are to the base model weight (the lowest CO2 value), the nearer you will be to the lowest-cost option in your span.
When will I have a confirmed Benefit In Kind tax?
If you go for a base model, the Benefit in Kind tax rate will be the lowest number in your CO2 span, so you can look it up on the HMRC website. If you add extras to your vehicle, the Benefit in Kind tax rate will not be confirmed until the vehicle has been built and tested under the new rules.
Is my rental going to change?
Not necessarily. Your rental will only change if the CO2 impact of the extras you choose is significant enough to move it up to a higher Vehicle Excise Duty band.
Why does my quote look different?
WLTP rules mean that the CO2 for your new vehicle will be measured on the specific extras you choose. As we don’t have the CO2 values for every vehicle option, we now have to give a range of possible CO2 values.
How can I make the right decision?
Before you put in your order, please look at how the span of CO2 values might affect your total monthly figure – taking into account the potential consequences forboth Benefit in Kind tax and Vehicle Excise Duty. If you’re not sure about the impact, it could be a good idea to opt for the base model or, at least, avoid any heavy optionalextras to reduce the potential CO2.
