What do I need to charge my electric car?
To charge your electric vehicle, you will require a recharging station, a charging cable, and a charging card.
Can I include a home loading system in my lease contract?
LeasePlan offers two charging solutions for charging your electric vehicle:
Does my electricity network at home have sufficient capacity for a home recharging system?
Your existing power supply will probably be sufficient, because your car is recharged mainly at night when you are not using other electrical appliances. Your recharging station can be programmed to operate at the right power and at the right time so that any potential overload to your electricity network can be avoided as much as possible.
I can't recharge at home. Are there alternatives?
If you do not have the possibility to recharge at home, you can use a public recharging point. You do not need a home charger to drive electrically. More and more charging points are being added in Belgium. Via the charging app you will find a handy overview of all charging points in Belgium and Europe.
Would you like to charge at a public recharging station? Then you have to bring your own cable. You can pay with your charging card. In some places you also have the possibility to pay by text message or via the bancontact app.
Can't find a recharging point in your local area? Then you can lodge a request for one based on the Flemish government's "recharging point follows car" principle. According to this principle, recharging points will be installed in locations where people need them. With each request, the authorities come to see whether recharging at the person's own premises is possible or not. If it's not, they will check on the presence and occupancy rate of existing recharging points within a radius of 500 metres. If they then find there is insufficient recharge infrastructure, a new recharging point with access for the public will be installed. You will find more information about this at www.paalvolgtwagen.be .
Where can I use my charging card?
Various apps can be downloaded to easily view the recharging terminals in your area. You can currently use your LeasePlan charging card at some 9000 charge points in Belgium. Throughout Europe, you have a network of some 200,000 charge points at your disposal.
What is the difference between a fast-charger and a standard recharger?
Fast-chargers are quite similar to standard rechargers. As the name suggests, it is a faster way to recharge. One main difference is the use of direct currents. With direct currents, the vehicle's transducer is not used but rather the battery is directly charged by the recharging terminal. This allows for much higher charging speeds than with alternating currents.
The main differences:
How long will it take to charge my vehicle?
This depends on a number of factors: the type of car, how empty the battery is, how fast your car can charge and at which charging point you will charge. If you charge your car at a regular power socket, you should be able to count on 24 hours. At a public charge point this is about 4 to 8 hours. If you are going to charge your car with a quick charger (you will find this mainly along the motorway), your battery will be 80% charged in 30 minutes. Keep in mind that charging at such a quick charger is more expensive than at a normal charging point.
How does a public charging station work?
You connect the vehicle to the recharging station via the charging cable. Log in using your charging pass and you can begin recharging your vehicle. The charging fees will be invoiced monthly by your charging pass provider.
Do I have to return the home charger at the end of the lease?
The home charger, unlike the lease car, becomes the property of your employer. You therefore need to agree this with your employer.
Where can I order a charging pass?
If you are entitled to a refund via your employer, please contact LeasePlan. We can provide you with a charge card, the invoicing for which will be settled directly with your employer. Are you responsible for the charging? You can easily order a charging card at www.newmotion.com. This charging card can be linked to your credit card.
Which charger can I use?
At home you can load your car in 2 ways:
On the way, you have the following options:
I'm moving, what happens to my charging station?
The charging station is the property of your employer. It is therefore best to check with your fleet manager. Moving is often more expensive than installing a new one.
What happens to the charging station if my car is assigned to a colleague?
The charging station is the property of your employer, who will decide what happens to the charging station.
What should I do with the loading pass if my car is assigned to another colleague?
The charging card and cable are linked to the trolley. If your car is passed on, you also need to pass on the charging card.
Can I ensure that my employees only recharge in Belgium?
A charging card cannot be blocked for use abroad.
My fuel card, which also allows me to charge electrically, does not work, who can help me?
You can use My LeasePlan to block your loading pass and request a new one. You will receive this within 10 working days.
From when is the charging card operational?
The charging card will work as soon as you receive it, even without registration. We recommend that you link/register the charging card with the NewMotion app so that you can check which charging stations are available in the area at any time.
This way you can check which charging stations are available nearby and you can consult an overview of your usage, both public and private.
What is Dynamic Load Balancing?
Dynamic Load Balancing ensures optimal energy distribution on the network, so that overloading does not occur and the vehicle can always be optimally charged. You can determine the charging speed yourself.
What do the colours on the map in the app mean?
Green: charging point available Red: charging point is occupied or out of order Grey: the status of the charging station is unknown because we have not received any status data for this station.
Why are some charging points only accessible with the app and others only with the charging card?
This depends on the type of station. Some stations are equipped without an RFID reader and some cannot yet be controlled by apps. Most charging stations are accessible via the charging key.
What happens if I leave my electric car at a charging point for a few days?
The charging session usually stops as soon as the car is fully charged. Attention: some providers have a price structure that you charge per minute. This means that even after your car is fully charged, you will have to pay the price per minute (often considered a "parking fee"). Consider this before you park your car for a longer period of time. It's better to move your car as soon as charging is complete. This will free up the charging point for the next driver.
I can't stop the charging session or disconnect my cable
If the charging cable is attached to a charging station, follow these instructions:
How accurate is the information on the map in the app?
We receive the location, information, opening hours and live status of the charging points directly from the operator of the charging point. Unfortunately, these are not always 100% correct, but our partners do their best to create a perfect database.
How can I start a charging session?
Hold the charging key at the marked connection point and the charging session starts after a few seconds.
Our tips before charging:
How can I end a charging session?
When your car is fully charged, the charging session will automatically end.
To end a charging session earlier:
To whom should I report a charging problem?
Before reporting a problem, check if:
What should I bear in mind when choosing a home charge point?
Do you have your own driveway, garage or private parking? Are you an owner or tenant? Can you take action independently as an owner or is this in consultation with an association of homeowners? In addition, it is best to take into account the mains voltage that is connected in your street. This has an influence on the charging speed of your car.
Is my home charging point publicly accessible?
No this is only accessible with your charge card and is not open to third parties.
I already have a charger at home and I want to use that charger with reimbursement of all my home charging sessions. What are my options?
If your home charger is a Blue Corner or Shell Recharge Solutions charger, LeasePlan can provide the reimbursement service. For Blue Corner the brand name will always be visible on the exterior of the device, for Shell Recharge Solutions you can call the technical assistance mentioned on the side of the device. You can request the reimbursement service to LeasePlan.
If your charger is not Blue Corner or Shell Recharge Solutions we advise to contact directly the current provider and check the possibilities with them. LeasePlan, based on experience, does not support absorbing another brand of home charger in our platform.
If the current provider cannot support the reimbursement, our providers Blue Corner and Shell Recharge Solutions can switch the device and provide the reimbursement service. Be aware that this switch of device must be analyzed and will have a tailormade pricing. Any if not all of the components of the current installation will be reused for the new device. You can request this switch to LeasePlan.
