Important! Agreements made with your employer regarding your lease car always take precedence over our guidelines. The information below only applies when the service in question is included in your contract.
Driving range
What is the range of an electric car?
Depending on the model you can drive about 200 to more than 500 kilometres with a full battery. According to research by SD Worx, the average distance between home and work (back and forth) in Belgium is about 40 kilometres per day. This makes an electric car very suitable for commuting, for example.
How many kilometres can I drive on a fully charged battery?
A fully charged battery with a capacity of 40 kW will enable you to drive 200 to 250 kilometers. If you drive sensibly, you will achieve even more. Speed has the most effect on the amount of power drawn down from your battery, so you are advised to keep to the permitted speed limits.
There are also other factors that may have an effect on your driving range:
- Low temperatures (causing heating to be on continuously)
- a sporty driving style
- riding with strong headwind
- a fully loaded car
long uphill ride
Air conditioning, on the other hand, consumes very little battery capacity.
Can weather conditions affect my driving range?
In addition to speed and driving style, weather conditions affect the capacity of the battery:
- strong wind
- very low temperatures, so the heating is always running. Unlike a car with a conventional engine using waste heat from the engine, an electric car must generate the heat with energy from the battery.
- Air conditioning, on the other hand, consumes very little battery capacity.
I have an electric vehicle and I want to go on holiday by car, what now?
