Stricter rules in the low-emission zones from 2020

- Belgium

From 2020, stricter admission conditions apply in various low emission zones (LEZ) in Belgium. For example, the rules for the low emission zone in Antwerp stipulate that diesel cars must have at least Euro norm 5 in order to enter the LEZ. Vehicles with petrol, LPG or natural gas must have at least Euro norm 2.

In the Brussels low emission zone, diesel cars need to have at least Euro norm 4 to get admission. For petrol, LPG or natural gas vehicles the same conditions as in Antwerp apply.

On January 1rst, the City of Ghent will also introduce a low emission zone. The LEZ covers the entire area within the city ring (R4), with the exception of the city ring itself. The same conditions apply to the LEZ in Ghent as in Antwerp. Meaning: minimum Euro 5 for diesel cars and Euro 2 for petrol, LPG or natural gas vehicles.
