LeasePlan history
In 1963, LeasePlan was founded in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, by Anton Goudsmit. Originally, LeasePlan offers equipment leasing, based on the American leasing model, as it was basically unknown in those years in the Netherlands. After a few years, Huib van der Meulen, coming from the automotive dealer business, joined the company.
Together they came up with a concept of transparency combined with advantageous financing. Dealing with customers in open calculation brought this concept to life. It made so much sense to everyone that it became LeasePlan's philosophy.
The company took its first steps towards internationalisation by creating LeasePlan Belgium in 1972. LeasePlan branched out of Europe in the 80's forming LeasePlan USA in 1983 and LeasePlan Australia in 1988. Since the year 2000 LeasePlan has established several new offices in various countries around the world.
