Responsibility

LeasePlan ChildPlan

In November 2006, LeasePlan started a corporate initiative named LeasePlan ChildPlan to raise a substantial amount of money to support underprivileged children in developing countries. Since then, several global intiatives have been organised to continue raising money for these children. LeasePlan offices around the world also organise fund-raising activities locally, under the LeasePlan ChildPlan umbrella, which are not listed here.

Global Projects

Nepal

Our first global project was the Child Watabaran Centre Nepal  (CWCN) in Kathmandu, Nepal, where we provided the financial means to realise a new boys home, girls home and academic building for 60 former street children and a mobile health service and transit clinic. These children now receive care, shelter, food, medical care and education, and have a safe place to live.

Rwanda

In 2011 LeasePlan decided to support children with a physical or mental disability in Rwanda. In third world countries, such as war-torn Rwanda, very few children with these disabilities are able to go to school. There is not enough knowledge and skills to deal with the needs of these handicapped or even traumatised children. Komera, a non-governmental organisation in Rwanda, helps these children to find some independence and happiness. They do this by offering adapted educational programmes that teach children to make optimal use of any means of communication, such as using various visualisation techniques and sign language.

India

Health
Until the end of 2015, LeasePlan will support 270 children (which is almost double the original target) that are infected / affected by HIV/Aids within the 'Foster a Child Programme (FCP)' of SSH, the Society for Serving Humanity.

The objective of this project is to create an enabling environment for the social, educational and health development of these children that live in the Namakkal and Dindigul district in the state Tamil Nadu in India. 90% of these children have lost their parents and many are orphans that live with grand parents or other relatives.

Schooling
Currently there is a lack of proper education in the same area. The Society for Serving Humanity (SSH) will build a school offering education from 1st until 12th grade. Through the financial support of LeasePlan, 600 children will be able to receive an education with a focus on good quality education including English lessons and computer training. We are proud to announce the school will be known as the ChildPlan Academy.

The aim is to admit 300 FCP children (which will save the currently paid school fees) and 300 children outside the programme (which will provide additional income). Next to providing good education the new school will enhance SSH's sustainability in the years to come.

Pakistan

Nowshera Kakayzain is a small village in Tehsil Pasrur, District Sialkot, Punjab, Pakistan. It has a small school - called Primary School - educating youngsters from first to fifth grade.

Many local children are staying out of school because the existing infrastructure cannot house all the kids. Only a few kids are going to nearest the available school, 5 kilometers away. Walking 10 km each day just to get to school and back is clearly not an optimal situation. What was needed was the expansion of local facilities to address this problem, and to have more kids overall attending school.

“We are indeed grateful to LeasePlan, who helped us to address this problem. Let me categorically point out once again that had LeasePlan not come forward with the donation, the finish date for the construction of a new block would have delayed the project by a considerable amount of time,” said Hammad Malik, who helped oversee the project.

Cameroon

Poverty, underdevelopment and diseases such as HIV/Aids are typical of the lives of people living in Babungo, Cameroon. The Babungo Foundation, founded in 2008, implements small-scale projects to support the children in the area. The foundation focuses on health care, schooling and microcredit projects to improve the health, economic position and coping capacity of the people in Babungo.

Many children in Babungo, particularly girls, do not attend school. The lack of money to pay tuition, parents suffering from HIV/Aids, or other problems in the family mean that these children are not receiving an education. Medical problems such as poor eyesight can also keep children from being enrolled in school.

The Babungo Foundation is dedicated to ensuring that as many children as possible can get an education. Since the foundation was established, Babungo has been paying school tuition for 21 children, most of whom are girls. Education is seen as one of the most important ways of fighting poverty. LeasePlan ChildPlan is proud to provide funds to the Babungo Foundation from a variety of fundraising activities.

Net4Kids

In order to safeguard a proper execution of these initiatives, LeasePlan ChildPlan works with Net4kids, a Dutch organisation that supports underprivileged children in developing countries. Net4Kids works together with local people and organisations, providing on-site project support and arranging regular updates on the progress made. Net4kids also works together with Wilde Ganzen, a Dutch charity organisation that supports fund-raising campaigns and reviews proposed projects on feasibility.

The business approach of Net4kids in combination with their professional team form a perfect match with the spirit of LeasePlan ChildPlan. Together we do our utmost to ensure that the money LeasePlan donates reaches these children.
